wonderingcat agony auntIt depends on what type of hysterectomy you will have. Partial or full scale elimination (uterus + ovaries + falopian tubes).

I suggest you bring yourself to be knowledgable (and ask very smart questions) when you talk to your doctor the next time you see him/her, by reading these articles:

Hysterectomy http://www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/consumer/women/hyster.htm

DIFFERENT TYPES OF HYSTERECTOMIES http://www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/consumer/women/hyster.htm#differ

If it is not a life threatening condition, your doctor most likely will perform a partial hysterectomy, which might allow a small window of chance on you having children in the future. So make sure you read up on as many literature you can find on hysterectomy and ask your doctor as many questions as you want!

Doctors are usually quite impressed by well informed patients, and that will bring out their best in helping you and respecting your wishes too (within their medical capacity of course).

Good luck!
