reader, anonymous, writes (2 May 2009): Years ago you could buy American Tips these were condoms that only covered the penis head and were sometimes used underneath a full condom but it was best to smear them with a nonslip spermicide to help getting them on and preventing friction with the fully applied condom. In this way they worked very well, but you can make these with a dry condom held in place with a 11cm elastic band doubled.This is a very effective form contraception

No, using two condoms is not considered safe. Just as you pointed out, using two condoms together will cause one or both of the condoms to break due to the friction of the condoms rubbing together. Only one condom is needed.
Remember, the "safest" way to avoid pregnancy and STD's is through abstinence.

The "Double bagging" or wearing two condoms is a myth as you have rightly pointed out they can slip off or split due to friction, condoms are much more effective if just one is put on correctly.

If you want double the protection use two types of birth control, for example the OCP and Condoms.
