I confessed, she seemed to take it well, although she had no idea I was into her. She said "I wasn't thinking of you like that. Later, I found she told all her frinds that I was a cre"epy old man, and when I was in her circles, I was the C.O.M. Very hurtful. Don't do that.

"Oh that is so flattering. I wish I could tell you different, but I see you as a friend only. You are so brave for telling!" I'd keep it short and sweet and not go on and on about how you wish it was different. Don't make promises you can't keep and remember that it's hard to put one's feelings out there and be rejected. Be gentle, be kind but be firm.
