Totally inappropriate, and you need to tell him, or make a complaint.

I’d tell him not to. I doubt he hugs his male patients.

I’d think it’s odd to be honest and pretty unprofessional. A hug is a loving gesture between friends and family, not your doctor.

Does it matter how I would feel?
HOW do you feel?
If you felt it's inappropriate, then DO tell him.
If you don't, then maybe you have a WAY TOO tactile boss and maybe you are OK with it because you like the guy?
I don't really think it's something that should happen in the work-place, to be honest. Unless you are also bestest of friends outside of work, maybe then it wouldn't be weird.
