with that said there are a few things you could try, my experience is that practice will make it less painful as you become more used to the pain, in turn the pain can lead to it being pleasurable.
try using lots of lube or if you can't get hold of any then try household lubricants, shaving foam works really well, baby oil etc.
i suggest the main thing you do is make sure you empty yourself first as well, as this makes it less messy.
if you are experimenting with a guy then maybe start of slow and ask him to finger your arse during normal sex and see how that goes, someone else's control will feel differently than your own.
