I wanted to ask for her number but i didnt really know how to approach a total stranger. I feel as though i really missed out on a possibility of a date, and it bums me out. Any pointers on approaching a random girl at the mall? Any advice would be much appreciated. Reply to this Question Share |

"Hey, my name is _____."
Unless of course you have an actual reason to talk to her. Most guys, at least in the USA as far as I've noticed, use a "conversation starter". That just means, comment on whatever first comes to mind. "You got fancy shoes!" or "You got so many shopping bags!"
One guy commented on my gloves at a bus-stop one time.. said they were cool, lol. Then carried on to ask about my accent.
In Norway though we typically just present ourselves without any fancy tricks or obvious conversation starters.
If you want to do things smoothly just ask her for the time and smile. If she's already "smiled you over" aka invited you to talk to her (YES BOYS, THAT'S WHAT IT MEANS WHEN SHE SMILES!) she'll jump at any opportunity to talk to you, even if you just start off with your name or ask her the time. Be genuine. Be cool. Don't let it bother you if she says no, just say "ok" and keep walking.
