How long is too long for a Break-Up?

A female United States age 36-40, *weetheart1nonly writes:

I see people have broken up for close to 8 months, 1year and 2 years and yet they would just refer it to "Only 8 months" "Only 1 year". Isn't that long enough or a reasonable time and most times, they still get back together after that long period of time.

How long is too long or what time is reasonable?

Who knows... there is no set amount of time. Each situation/connection is different. I've heard stories of high school sweethearts divorcing their spouses 20 years later and getting back together.

An interesting tidbit from the bible to consider: "True love is eternal"

but... according to the cynical standards of the day, people should give up and move on as soon as possible.
