When the results get back will depend on how long it has been since you had unprotected sex with him, and how long ago he had shared the needle. This is a great question. It takes about three months for the human immunodeficiency virus to show up in any kind of HIV test. Have you had unprotected sex with him since he shared the needle? If you have, at any time after he had shared the needle, you are at a great risk. Go to your doctors immediately, and come back for tests if he tells you to. He'll likely take a sample of your blood for testing when you go, but if it comes up negative, you're not out of the woods yet. You'll have to go back in two or three months for another test.
Always remember, USE A CONDOM with ANY partner that you haven't known for more than three months, and only then if you know he's been tested since then.
Also, if you plan on having sex any time soon, USE A CONDOM! The male condom is the most effective way to prevent STDs, pregnancy (without The Pill if you aren't on it), and HIV/AIDS from being transmitted next to abstinance.
Good luck, and let me know how it goes! -Carrie

That man could get into HUGE trouble, as in attempted murder trouble if he had sex with you knowing that he was infected. I don't know anything about the Canadian health service but I know that unless you go private here tests can take about ten days to come back. Go and see your doctor and get tested immediately for your own peace of mind and just remember, even if the worst happens and the doctor confirms you've been infected, HIV isn't the death sentence it once was. People can live for decades with it now. Take care and I hope it all works out for you okay.
