How likely is it for the morning after pill to fail?

A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I, regretably, had unprotected sex. It wasn't planned and I am absolutely terrified of becoming pregnant now.

I got the morning after pill the next morning and took it within 10 hours of having sex. The lady told me I should be fine, however I have been reading online about the pill and how it has been known to fail and I'm so scared that it will and I'll end up pregnant.

The thought of abortion is horrible but I know I wont be able to go through with haing a baby.

I want to carry out a pregnancy test to be sure but believe I have to wait at least 3 weeks.

lexilou agony auntOkay its not what you want to hear but it did fail with my friend and she followed the instructions to the letter. So for peace of mind do the test or wait to see if your period arrives. It does have a high success rate I just think my friend was unlucky. I wish you good luck x

As long as you take the morning after pill properly then you are almost gaurunteed not to be pregnant.

The fail rate is extremely low.

The chances of you being pregnant are next to nothing.

Yes it is scary and yes you might want to take a test just so you don't have a nervous break down in the next 9 months worrying about it, but you are going to be fine.

Good Luck!! xx

Well, unfortunately there is nothing else you can do at this point besides wait for your period. All this stress will only cause a delay in your period and will cause you more stress. So sit back because there is nothing you can do.
