Things have become quite serious between us and we have begun to talk about having a long term future together. This week he told me that he suffers from bipolar disorder and was so apologetic that he hadn't told me before. I generally know what bipolar is and have been reading more. He assures me that he always takes his meds and makes efforts to avoid things that are triggers for him.He has never been bad tempered with me and I am inclined to continue with the relationship. How hard is it to have a relationship with someone like this? Reply to this Question Share |

reader, anonymous, writes (4 October 2008): well, I've never been in a relationship with anyone who is bipolar.. but my grandmother is bipolar. The only time she has flare ups is when she gets really depressed or if she doesn't take her meds. Her flare ups are not that bad. She usually talks about her past, as a child. And she "tries" to take trips by herself during those times... As long as he avoids the trigger mechanisms and always takes his meds.. I wouldn't think you would have a problem. Just remember that Bipolar is a disorder and if you want to be with this man you are going to have to be strong and very supportive. if so... everything should be fine.
