I took the pill at 11am, that's 9 hours after the unprotected sex. What i want to know is, how effective is the morning after pill ?Will i still get pregnant?Im visting the family planning clinic soon. Also how soon after unprotected sex could i take a pregnancy test.Help appreciated.Anon xx

Hi hun, just want to start by saying that nobody should be judging you for drinking etc, we all do it when we're young. I had to take the morning after pill when I was your age and You've done the right thing. You need to wait a while before taking a test, doing one this early won't show anything. The morning after pill is very effective and if you took it properly then there's not much chance you'd be pregnant. I would say though, ALWAYS keep condoms at hand in future. I'm not trying to be patronizing but you don't want to go through this again right?!

It is 95% effective in the first 24 hours, 85% between 25 and 48 hours, and 58% between 49 and 72 hours
The IUD (intrauterine device) is almost 100% effective as a method of emergency contraception and is therefore the most effective way of preventing an unplanned pregnancy.
You can always go to your doctor and ask them about that, or the Planned Parenthood clinic.
I hope this helps hon, and in future, try to have a condom on hand, or go on the pill! Its free in the UK and there are a lot less side effects to the pill than there are to having a baby when youre not ready!

The morning after pill, is about 90% effective, where as condoms are about 96% effective, please in future make sure he uses condoms and get yourself on some form of birth control.
I won't start on under age drinking because I'm sure you have learned this one the hard way!
Good luck

Good luck!

The morning after pill is very effective and it can be effective up to 72 hours after. You can take a pregnancy test if you miss a period! X
