My inquiry is very important to get insight on.When I talk with my friend, I put the :) smiley for anything I answer. One time, he asked me to read some old literature he wrote. My exact reply was "You're a good writer. :)". I put that smiley in, just about all the time when I answer him.I am curious as to how he interprets this. Guys and girls, I need honest insight, please.Thank you for your time.

You are making your question clearer, thank you! :)
I have family and friends and I love them a lot. :D
I wish people around the world would realize that it's better to be nice than to be mean. I don't like mean people. :P
I've been a good girl for most of my life, except for when I've been naughty. 3:)
I wish I had better news for you. :/

Your example of his use of the :D as a reply to your comment doesn't in and of itself show anything more than a person replying politely to another person's polite comment.
Who is the guy and what are you hoping for?
If you are thinking that his use of the :D means he has a crush on you, in the example you provided, no, he's just being polite. There's nothing 'more than friends' going on there.

Here's an example of when I use the :D smiley.
Me: I thoroughly enjoyed your work. You have a wonderful way with words! :D
Him: Thank you! :D
…… Are either of us behaving in a "more than friends" way? I don't want to make it an awkward thing for him, of that is the case.

I guess this question depends on who your online contact is. If it's a girl or boy your age, s/he's merely adopting your use of icons in order to show you that she sees you using them and is using them back as a friendly gesture.
If it's an older guy, someone way older than you, well, then he is using a technique called mirroring in which someone makes you comfortable with them by using the same words, gestures, expressions, and intonation as you do. It's a way of gaining someone's trust. It's used by con artists a lot.
I think most people take this emoticon: :) to be a light friendly image, not to be taken too seriously. :( may mean someone is a bit sad, or unhappy or is sympathizing with you on a loss.
Who is this online contact? That would really help us out in deciphering his usage of the emoticons.

if you use it all the time it means NOTHING and after a while it's like a period.

What can this mean? Does this mean that either one of us is starting to feel something for the other person? I'm curious, as I've never noticed this before.

Probably in the same way that most people interpret LOL, i.e. it doesn't mean anything at all because of overuse. Maybe you could stop using it unless there is something that actually makes you smile. Familiarity breeds contempt and all that.

What makes you ask? I'd assume smiley face means you are definitely friends, an xx suggests more than friends. If you do it all the time this would be a bit repetitive so he probably doesn't even notice it anymore!
