Plexi agony auntI just wanted to add that at your age your body is in a building(toning)cycle and you need to feed it properly. Start eating better of course, lots of lean meats such as chicken breast and fish, lots of green veggies and complex carbs such as potatoes, fruits(stay away from those high in sugar) and drink ton tons of water!!!!!!!!!!!! You DO NOT need to worry about losing weight right now. Increase your exercise and activity and you can think of going on a stricter diet and exercise regimen after you turn 25(please don't fall into the stupid messages you get from tv and megs.

The BMI is pretty broad brush. It is a useful guideline but it doesn't take into account different kinds of body. At 38 years old my BMI is above 40 so if there was a category above obese, let's say "grossly obese" then that would be me, but my blood is fine, my blood pressure is good, I can run a couple of miles, ski, play tennis. My girlfriend has a BMI of 17 and I know that if we go hiking I have a lot more energy than she does and I end up carrying her home. Go by what you look like, how you feel, how much energy you have rather than by any magic number.

A female reader, Plexi Canada +, writes (28 January 2009):

Plexi agony auntBody mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to both adult men and women.

* Enter your weight and height using Standard or Metric measures.

* Click on "Compute BMI" and your BMI will appear in the heart of the figure.

BMI Categories:

* Underweight = 18.5

* Normal weight = 18.5-24.9

* Overweight = 25-29.9

* Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

KEEP IN MIND THAT YOU ARE NOT AN ADULT YET AND YOU MAY STILL HAVE BABY FAT LEFT OVER. Don't stress by the time you are 30 you will look fabulous and at the risk of sounding corny its the inside that counts not exterior appearances!:)

The average weight for a girl your height and age range (16-17) should be 100-115 lbs.

You may want to eat more healthier foods, lay off the fast food & snacks, and get more exercise!

2old4this agony auntWell I dont think I would call you fat. Maybe a little short for your weight. I think all those people who call you fat are a little rude. If you did lose weight, I wouldnt lose more than 20 at the most. But I can't see you right now. If you feel good the way you are then you tell them to go step.
