writes: HelloHow do you deal with a family member who's always bragging? Every get together we have all she does is brag. It's pretty annoying, she seems insecure that she needs to do that. I usually bite my tongue, but I'm human and can only take so much. Any advice? Thanks

reader, anonymous, writes (2 June 2023): Assuming you care for this person as a family member, the best way to deal with it would be to ask her one on one why she feels the need to exaggerate everything. It is probably because she is insecure and unhappy.
However, if she is just an obnoxious person who you don't care for, then you could just call her out on the lies infront of everyone. It will probably end in a row but she might not do it again.

reader, anonymous, writes (31 May 2023): I have a neighbour like this. We find it amusing as the boasts are totally impossible. She told me a few weeks ago that her sister, a woman who drinks like a fish, swears a lot, uneducated, loud, noisy, argumentative, disruptive, low class and common, is a famous clairvoyant and that lots of politicians, important people, Royalty from all over the World fly to her tiny little apartment for her advice! Another time she told me that because she had handed out some leaflets for a charity outside a bus stop she was awarded a medal by the Queen. She told me that her brother, who cannot get a job or read and write, is going to be a brain surgeon. We eagerly look forward to hearing the next empty boast and being entertained with it.
