How do I tell this girl I want to be more than just friends with her?

A male United Kingdom age , anonymous writes:

I have a female friend, that was married to my mate, for 20 years, they split, 4 years ago after a couple of years she met someone else, but they have recentley split. I've always liked her, and we have become really close as I've been a shoulder to cry on, but I really feel that I want a proper relationship with her, but how do I tell her how I feel, as she may just see me as a good friend?

I don't see or have any contact with my mate now. Myself and this girl have been friends since my mate met her 20 years ago.

A female reader, Emilysanswers United Kingdom +, writes (29 January 2009):

Just go for it!

Take her out and have a really great night in the pub and then tell her how much you enjoy her company. Get yourself close to her and give her a hug.

Then if you feel the moment is right lean in for a kiss.

If it all goes horribly wrong blame the alcohol. If it works then still be the gentleman and walk her home, but then when you are next together and sober, tell her you can't stop thinking about that kiss and her and you think she is the most beautiful and amazing thing in your life.

If she doesn't melt into your arms at that then she is a lost cause.

Good Luck!! xx
