If they're the type to flip out, perhaps a note will suffice especially since you're so young, it may be easier. Otherwise, "Mom and Day, I'm gay" should work.

reader, anonymous, writes (30 November 2009): Hmm, thats a tricky one. Are they quite liberal or very old fashioned? Because if they are quite open minded then they should be quite accepting. My mate came out recently but before that she tried to break it gently to her mum by telling her that she was having feelings towards other girls. Her mum hit the roof and this really upset my friend but she waited a few months and started seeing this girl behind her mums back. Obviously parents arent stupid as she was constantly talking about this girl, and her mum confronted my friend about it. She then told her mum that yes she was gay and if her mum loved her then she would accept it, and guess what everythings fine now! However, it could have gone the other way, not to put you off or anything, but you are quite young so maybe you should do what my friend did, mention your feelings and see the reaction? It might take a while for them to accept it as it may come as a big shock to them , but if they see its the same you and that you havent changed then im sure in time they will come to terms with it! reader, anonymous, writes (30 November 2009): depends on your parents. they will either freak out cry etc.. or calmly talk to you. either way the best is to sit them down and tell them that you are gay. its not going to be easy but waiting for the right time is like waiting for rain.. there is never a right moment.. ever.
