However, when I left uni, we decided to end it as I was going off travelling. He came to visit a couple of times over that summer, which in hindsight was a mistake, but at the time I was lost and saying no seemed an impossibility. It's been almost a year now. I went travelling, grew up and moved on. But he still calls or texts me everyday and wants me to go and visit in 2 weeks. I keep trying to postpone it but am running out of options. I still love him, probably always will, but can't afford to go back in time. Our lives are going in completely opposite directions. I don't want to be cruel but how do I tell him that I just can't do this anymore?

No matter how you say it, it will hurt him a little. But dragging it out and stalling will hurt way more. Be honest.

Just explain it to him. You have explained it clear enough to me so just tell him exactly how you feel. X
