writes: hi, ok erm i have a really big issue.well last april sometime i started my periods, im not really that close with my mum for no reason really im just not. I dont even discuss normally girly stuff with her so you can imagine how hard it was when my periods started well i didnt tell her anything about it until the beginning of september sometime. i myself dont have aproblem with my actual periods its the fact that i have to tell my mam to empty the bin or something like that, and i just hid the evidence at first and then i used the bin we have thats sperate from eveything else and she tells me to tell her when it needs emptying and i just dont find it comfortable to march up to her and say oh you need to clean to bin, and when i do come on and sometimes in not ready and like it stains my good underwear, well i just put it somewhere thinking oh i'll sort it out later and then she finds it and its mega embarrassing but i just feel that i cant talk to my mum and im obv not guna talk to my dad! i just dont know what to do coz i have to get on with like all this stuff but my mum. arrrhhh. please help!

you should just tell your mum. i remember i was really scared to tell mine, but when i did she just seemed happy for me.strange, as it's not like it's a pleasant thing.lol. she then offered advice on sanitary towels,etc. i felt alot better once i told her too, as i kept wondering if it was normal,etc. there is no reason why you can't tell your mum, she is a woman after all and it's not like having a period is a un-natural thing.

reader, anonymous, writes (7 January 2009): Why don't you clean the bin yourself then? As for the undies, just give 'em a rinse and chuck 'em in the wash - your mum will probably think nothing of it (if she even notices.)

reader, anonymous, writes (7 January 2009): I was like that when I started and my mum just found out eventually. And then she sat down and had a big talk about it. And about the bin thing, I live with my dad now and it is embaressing when I come on without knowing and staining my good pants and when the bin needs emptying and shopping for that sort of thing. But I can talk to him about almost everything (apart from that time of the month)Your mum would've been through it all as well somewhere around your age and would know exactly what you're going through. Maybe you should just wait til she's on her own one night or like ask her to come talk to you and then talk to her about it then. Good luck :)
