k_c100 agony auntYes that is definitely too much - try a more natural approach with your eye make up. Lose the eyeshadow and eye liner, and leave it natural. Only use mascara.

Make sure you dont apply too much blusher, it should be subtle. And perhaps change your pink lip goss for a clear lip gloss so it is more natural.

Aside from that there is not a lot else you can do - I think it is a good idea to get some ID, even if you are not planning on learning to drive or go on holiday a provisional license or passport is always handy.

Try not to get too hung up on how old you look, you cant change what you were born with so accept it and as long as you make sure your date knows your age you should be fine.

I hope this helps and good luck!

Be thankful you appear younger than your actual age. Acquire an ID from your state. Don't try to look old!

PerhapsNot agony auntDo you have a baby face? If you do, there is not much you can do to make yourself look older face-wise. Baby faces like Leonardo DiCaprio's take some time to age. You can't age your face and your skin unless you want to get creative with face prosthetics!

What you CAN do to appear more age appropriate is the way you dress. I don't know what your personal style is, but if it resembles a teenager, or you're shopping in the junior section, you will look younger. A sure way to look more adult/polished is to spend more money on fitted clothing. A nice fitted blazer, leather jacket, trench coat or winter coat is a good example. More expensive, sleek shoes, or a classic bag. You can have some fun pieces, but tie it in with something more structured and timeless.

tennisstar88 agony auntEveryone has to have ID.

Maybe you're dressing like a teen, or wear too much makeup.

How much eye makeup? Young girls use and abuse black eyeliner. It's an enhancer, not an accessory. If you resemble a raccoon or like someone gave you a black eye, then you're using too much. All you need is a thin line on top and lined on the inside of your eye. Personally, I just line the top of my lids.

Stay away from glitter on your lids it's juvenile and migrates all over your face. Avoid loud colors, unless of course you have some sort of rocker chic style going on. Stick with the usual rainbow and neutrals are always a smart choice.

A hint of blush, don't cake it on. Foundation must match your skin tone! And a bit of colored lip gloss should give you a more polished face.

Wear age appropriate clothing. Uggs and mini skirts have teenager written all over them. Dark wash jeans, blazer with a delicate blazer underneath. If you want more of an edge, then wear a leather biker jacket. Or a flowy top cinched at the waist with a chic belt paired with skinny jeans and flats.

A female reader, k_c100 United Kingdom +, writes (3 February 2012):

k_c100 agony auntYou say you wear 'eye make up and that' - what does that mean? Do you wear only eye make up? Or a full face of make up as well?

Because often wearing eye make up, and eye make up only makes you look younger. Young girls and teenagers experiment with eye make up, almost like they are playing with mum's make up.

Whereas if you try and go for a natural make up look using the right products then this can help make you look a little older. Use foundation or a tinted moisturiser to give your skin a nice flawless finish. Use concealer under your eyes, a little on your eyelids and on any blemishes. If you are feeling a bit pale try a soft bronzer (nothing too organge though!) and always wear blusher. Then you can add a bit of mascara (you dont need anything else on your eyes) and some lip gloss and you are done.

Try wearing heels (must be a nice pair though, cheap shoes always make you look younger as well, like a teenager spending their pocket money on a cheap pair of heels) for a bit of elegance and sophistication, nothing so high you cant walk in though. Dont wear anything frilly, with a ditzy floral pattern or anything too wacky in terms of colours as this will only make you look younger. A classy fitted black dress would work well, or jeans, a nice top and tailored jacket would be good.

Make sure you spend some time on your hair - ensure it is well conditioned and glossy. There are plenty of products available to give extra shine - shine sprays etc. Either straighten it or have it curly/wavy rather than leaving it in its pure natural form as a bit of styling goes a long way, it makes you look more glamorous and put together.

But most of all - be yourself and dont try too hard, at the end of the day I'm sure he knows how old you are so dont worry about how old you look. Your personality will shine through and who cares if you look younger than you actually are, you have the bonus that you will age well!

I hope this helps and good luck!
