How do I make him do sweet things for me?

So I have been in a serious relationship for a year and four months. I live with my boyfriend and he is my first serious relationship. I always talk about wanting to be together for a long committed relationship but i am unsure if he wants to be. I feel like i invest money in him and try to be the best girlfriend but i want the same thing in return. Maybe a date once in a while, a surprise gift, or even a thoughtful gesture. I am scared he doesnt want to invest any money in me or too much time because he already knows he doesnt see himself with me in the future. any advice as to what i should do? Maybe how i can let him see i want a boyfriend who is willing to romantic and sweet things for me? i dont want him to feel like i am telling him how to be a boyfriend. :/
