writes: how do i lose weight? well you see i am 15 years old and i am over weight i am a size 14/16 clothes and weigh 12 stone. it is really embarrasing but i cant seem to get rid of the weight! i eat at least 4 pieces of fruit a day. i get up have breakfast n an apple n orange juice then i eat fruit and drink water through the day and i have a healthy tea every night with a glass of orange. i play rounders for the school team and football for an all boys team (although i am a girl, they let me be on the team, have been on it for 10 years) and i walk everywhere. i walk into town on a saturday and i go jogging and do sit ups and push ups on a night, my favourite sport at school is p.e and i love to do gamess. why cant i loose weight? i dont eat crisps or chocolate and i dont seem to be unfit. i just hate the way i look. i have been to a dietition and everything but they said exactly what im doing. please help me someone x

Do you eat a lot of carbohydtares? Maybe try seeing your doctor and see if they can come up with a healthy balanced diet for you to try.

As you don’t give your height, then I can’t tell if you are overweight. 12 stone is fine for a tall girl. Tall girls should be a bigger dress size. Also, if you exercise a lot, you will have more muscle, which weighs a lot more than fat. You are doing all the right things, so maybe it’s just working really slowly. This is frustrating for you, but slow weight loss is much more effective. Whatever you do, don’t start on any sill fad diets, and try not to weigh yourself too often and become obsessed. My mum spent all of her life from about your age on diets, and all she achieved was a slow but steady increase in weight because each time she stopped dieting, she put back the weight she had lost and a bit more extra. This happens to 95% of dieters. The other thing is, if you have a very strict ‘healthy’ diet do you slip-up quite often because you can’t resist temptation? If that’s the case, you need to lighten up a bit on the health regime. Our bodies are designed to cope with famine by eating as much as possible when food is there. So if you make your body think it’s experiencing a famine by over-dieting it will obsess with food. It will never ever give up, it has much more determination than you will ever have because it is trying to keep you alive, and it will win in the end. So you need to eat a varied healthy diet with enough calories to keep your body happy.
