Some people have said to me they still go swimming on their period even without tampons, but I am worried as even if I don't get my period while in the water, won't I still get it on the poolside? and since I wont be able to wear pads if I swim, how would that work? Any help is very much appreciated.

When I started using tampons, I couldn't use the ones with the applicators, I just couldn't figure it out. I used those OB ones, they were easy to learn and felt smaller than the ones with the applicators.
I wouldn't recommend going without tampons in the water either. The problem with the pads is that they will absorb the water and I'm not sure that's a good idea, hygenically speaking....

I really can't imaging it working.
If you really want to go swimming whilst on your period, then I suggest either trying out tampons, (if you're worried about them maybe you could ask someone close to explain them to you, or you can mail me and I'll talk to you about them.)
Or if you really don't want to wear a tampon then my advise would be not to go swimming whilst you've got your period.
Hope this helped.
