Meeting him doesn't mean he has to stay for a formal dinner. They just want the chance to size him up and they can do that if you have him pick you up at home before going out.
When he arrives, simply introduce everyone then give them a few minutes to make small talk. It shouldn't last more than a few mintutes and then you can be on your way.
If you speak highly of your family and demonstrate by your actions that they are important to you, any boyfriend you have is more likely to treat you well. Even if he thinks you're a pushover, he knows he will have to deal with your kin if he mistreats you in any way. So don't be embarrassed or impatient by your parents interest in him.
