As is the case with all other women, she will let you in if she wants to.
You don't have to prove you're a good guy. You are a good guy already. When you try to prove you're good, you prove you will let people string you along, and that usually has a bad end.
She may have had her heart broken and all, but I'm sure she can understand that not everyone is the same. You sort of think that if you push a bit more, she will give in, but, in her eyes, your gentle push might come to shove, you know?
As to the daughter, perhaps she never goes away because she doesn't want her mother alone with you. My guess is, the mother also knows.
The other option is throw a shoe at daughter and boyfriend (a la George Bush), but I think that is not an option you would want to take.
