 Don't worry about showing off. Just do what you feel like doing. If you want to flirt with him then just go for it. Have conversations with him and get to know him and pay him some compliments also drop hints. He'll get the point eventually.
Or the more obvious and simple (but risky) approach would be to ask him flat out. "I like you do you like me? If so lets start dating." :)
