writes: hello all, i have a question for the young ones out there. i do not know how to go on about this but basically i do not know what hot and what's not. i do not mean physical attraction i mean everyday things such as music and films, fashion. i know this sounds petty however it puts me down when im with my mates and i do not know what they're talking about.

Talk about things that you like [ kind of music, films, books, ects. ]. You will attract friends that like the same thing as you and then you wont have to worry about figuring out whats "hot" just fit in with your "friends". I wish you the best of luck.:]

reader, anonymous, writes (1 September 2010): Use the internet to stay up on popular culture: YouTube, Urban Dictionary, Facebook, blogs. For example, look at Billboard to find out the most popular songs, then YouTube the video so you can find out what's hot in music. If you like a particular genre of music, do a Google search to discover underground bands. I like to read Huffington Post to read up on opinions about current events and celebrity gossip blogs to keep up with what's happening in entertainment. As far as clothing, just go to the mall and see what other young folks are wearing. If you want to emulate their style, fine, but think more about who you are and how you want to express yourself as an individual.
