A male reader, anonymous, writes (10 November 2009):

Attractions are not there to make us happy. They are there for animalistic reasons, nothing more. The world is full of people who have spent their lives in terrible relationships because of that glorious thing we call "chemistry."

I am not trying to tell you to settle for the wrong person, I'm just saying keep your eyes open to the reality of things.

I think half of romantic attraction is just feeling like this new person is a catch. Like he or she might be a little higher up on the pecking order than you normally can do. Conversely if you think that a guy is low on the totem pole (other girls don't like him so much, you could easily have him all along, etc) then you will be less attracted to him for no good reason at all.

So start looking for a guy that you want to be with at any given moment, instead of looking for someone who you think is an accomplishment to have.
