writes: I make it a rule not to cry in school, long story short, today i did. luckily, i was alone with the teacher, who's also female so she understands the hormones, etc. and was really nice ad calmed me down. anyway, it got me thinking: what would a male teacher do in that situation? get really freaked out and run out of the room? and for that matter, what would any guy do if he were alone with a crying girl? Unfortunately these days a male teacher would be terrified of being accused of doing something inappropriate in that situation - it is very hard to effectively soothe someone crying without using some physical contact or some language that might be thought inappropriate taken out of context.

I can't say what everyone else would do but I would be sympathetic and offer any assistance. Most guys just don't know how to respond to a situation like that so they wont, but some do and can be just as understanding as a woman.
