A female reader, Bev Conolly Australia +, writes (9 February 2005):

Bev Conolly agony auntHi there,

First you need to remind yourself that he broke up with you, so he probably already knows how you feel. The point is that he doesn't feel the same way, or you'd still be a couple. Telling him that you're still interested in him is redundant.

You could send him a text saying that you'd like to see him for a coffee or a chat as friends, or attempt to engage him in a friendly conversation, but you'll always be treading a fine line between showing interest and stalking him.

If he's with someone else right now, I'd leave it be and not contact him at all. If he's single and you don't mind risking A rejection, you could contact him and ask how he's doing and if he'd like to meet you some time.

Be prepared to be rejected, though. He's already broken up with you for reasons that you probably are well aware of, and there isn't any special reason for him to still be romantically interested.

Good luck.
