writes: I was in jcrew today doing some shopping. while doing so a blonde who works there asked me if i needed help. she was so pretty, her hair was tossed up like kirsten dunst. i looked into her eyes and smiled and she smiled back. i smiled even more, and then she sort of turned and looked away. later on she asked me again how i was doing and if i needed anything; each time i smiled ad she smiled back. the last time she asked i was going close for the cash register; i smiled again, and she smiled. i am 28, this girl was probably like 23-24. i don't really consider myself attractive conventionally, but perhaps in a strange way i am. i wanted to take it a little further from the smile to something else to test if she really *liked* me or not, but wasn't sure what to do next. any thoughts or suggestions on what i could have done? You could have talked to her...I'm not trying to burst your bubble or anything, but after working in retail/customer service for quite some time, it's our job to ask people if we can help them sometimes more than once (especially if the manager is around) and it's part of the job to be friendly and smile. So if you're in a similar situation again, instead of just looking at her and smiling (and I really hope you actually said at least "no" because if you just looked at her an smiled she might have thought you were a little off), tell her that, yes, you do need help. Have her help you on things you might even know, that way it's an ice breaker somewhat and you can ask her how she likes working there etc.
