Today, he dropped his pen underneath my chair twice and asked me to get it. Also, he asks me, and only me, about homework. When he does this, it seems likes he's teasing. What exactly is he trying to tell me? I like him, but only as a friend.

He is trying to get close to you. Tell him you want to be his friend but not his girlfriend.

I think this boy J has got a real thing for you, he is trying to get it across by way of flirtatious gestures. If you respond to him when he flirts you are going to be giving him the wrong signals and he is going to think you like him. If you only like him as a friend don't reciprocate the flirting, and if it gets to much then you have got to tell him you only see him as a freind, and nothing else.
Good luck x
