Mr. Chumley is pretty much everything BUT your typical teacher. He's really young (twenty-six), he's the lead singer and rhythm-guitar player in a popular local Christian rock band, he's WAY more easygoing than the rest of the teachers (in the three years he's been here, he's never written up a single person), and if you saw him, you would never guess that he was a teacher. He seriously looks like a student. All of the girls are, like, head-over-heels for him, and all of the boys want to be him (simply for the reason that all of the girls love him...lol). He is commonly referred to affectionately as "Chum-Chum".Aside from being a teacher, Mr. Chumley is also the sponsor of Jackets for Jesus, my school's program for the Christian population. At our meeting two weeks ago, he told us to pray for him. He didn't say exactly what's going on; just told us that he's going through some really stressful stuff right now. Ever since then, I've been praying for him every chance I get. Now, here's the question. How can I show him that I'm here for him, no matter what? I know it might seem weird since I'm, like, ten years younger than him, but I really just want him to know that I'm here if he needs someone to turn to. I most likely wouldn't understand whatever it is that he's going through, but I would really try to help him out in any way he needed me to. Do you know of anything I could do to show him that I'm here for him. Sincerely,Confused over Chum-Chum.

Just simply tell him your always there for him and he should understand. sometimes short and sweet to explain your feelings is the answer.
A
reader, anonymous, writes (13 January 2008): It's very nice of you to care so much that you want to be there for him. It may be considered a little inappropriate if you try to be friendly with him in such a way, and as someone younger than him you may feel inexperienced in comparison but the thought really does count and if he is as nice as you say he is then he will appreciate it.
Simply ask him how he is, tell him you've been praying for him and let him know that if there was anything else you could do for him, you'd be happy to try to help.

It'd likely be inappropriate and confusing for both of you for you to attempt to "be there" for him as a friend based on the student-teacher relationship and the age difference. Continue to pray for him and be with him in spirit.
