There's a book called "Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems" by Richard Ferber. It was a life saver for us!

He is probably starting to cut his teeth, so it might not be the right time for him the "learn" to sleep through the night. Double it up with the fact that kids around that age start having separation anxieties ( usually around 9-12 months).
It can also be that he still hasn't mastered falling asleep on his own. Specially if you used to nurse him to sleep or rock him to sleep and then decided he has to do it on his own now.
So, unfortunately it's not at all uncommon that babies this age don't sleep through the night. My oldest didn't till she was 16 months. Yep. No sleep through the night for me either. Her two younger siblings slept like rocks.
They will eventually outgrow it.

My son did the same thing...found out he was hungry. couple table spoons of rice formula in his last bottle of the night...and boom...slept right through. He was only 3 months old at the time.
When my daughter came along and she started doing the same thing...we were ready :)
If you plan to do that, don't forget to make the nipple hole a bit bigger. If you are breast feeding...mix the milk with the rice formula and spoon feed him.
Kids today are growing much faster, so they need more food.
