How can I express myself without freaking her out?

A male Germany age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I have always been able to play "the game." I know how to talk to girls, and succeed to get the second date leading to the kiss. I've gotten cocky through the years due to my lack of failure with women.

Not too long ago did I meet a young lady in my ROTC (reserved officers training corps) that I got really attracted to. She seemed like any other girl in this planet so we spoke, but as we kept on talking I was blown away by her. Suddenly my fluid english became a bunch of "um's," and "uh's." I feel as if she completely drained my skills from me. I'm afraid that because I'm nervous around her she will lack interest in me. She loves literature, and hates guys that use Um's and Uh's after every word. I really like this girl, but I don't know how to tell her without freaking her out. I got a date with her this friday to a military dance, I'm planning to express myself there but I don't really know how.

Another thing that worries me is if I would make her uncomfortable if she were to think of dating a lower rank. I mean, sure I probably know more about the structure of the program than her but because of a departure I didn't advance in rank and she took my spot. Does it really matter the difference in rank? How can I express myself without freaking her out that I really like her and I met about 4 days ago?

I want the night to be where i tell her these things. I just don't really know how to make it special for her.
