How can I distiguish between her being nice and just acting like a family friend or more?

A male United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Hey y'all, I have a two part question:

First of all a little background. I've known this gal (she's 25, I'm 23) for almost 6 years know. We know each other since her uncle has been dating my mother for the past 6 years. We've gotten to know each other throughout the years. We don't see each often (usually just family gatherings, special occasions, etc.) but we do chat once in a while about everything from what's going on in our lives, to our favorite things, etc.

1) How do I distinguish between her just being nice instead of showing interest in me as more than family/friend? I'm not one of those guys who can read women very well lol. I could look up all the signs a girl shows if she's interested but I would like to hear from your ladies what you do if you're interested in a guy or just being nice to a guy.

2) Would it be a bad idea to make a move on her because of the family situation?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)

This is a slippery slope bc of the family factor. I would definitely let this one go bc youre probably mistaking her kindness for love interest.
