I can say I have had a negative home pregnancy test (and a second urine type test in the doctors office also neg) proved wrong by a blood test ordered just to be certain since I was late after always being like clockwork virtually down to the hour.
That resulted in a miscarriage, and whilst I have nothing concrete to base it on (coz plenty of people have no mishaps in the same circumstances) I have always wondered if the miscarriage was always on the cards and low levels of the HCG hormone was perhaps somehow indicative of not all being 'right'.
That's me waffling tho and like I said, nothing in it but my wonderings.

Blood tests are the most accurate, but home pregnancy tests are usually performed first. If you get multiple home pregnancy tests coming up negative then there is a good possibility you are not pregnant. If they come up positive, then the next step is to always go in and get the blood test to confirm once and for all.
There is not usually a reason to get the blood test without the home test showing up positive.
