writes: Why would a divorce not be granted for my boyfriend? My boyfiend of a year was cheated on by his wife, starting a few years ago. When he found out, he immediately left home but then went back to see if they could work through their differences. They couldnt, so he left the marital home for good 18 months ago. They sold the family home and made childcare arrangements all between themselves before she started divorce proceedings. She didnt want to be accused of adultery so they agreed that she would state unfair behaviour on his part as the reason as long as she paid for it all and organised it. Anyway he has just heard that they have refused this, saying her reasons arent good enough. He finds it hilarious, says they may as well wait for the 2 years to be up (only 6 months to go)and get the marriage dissolved (Ive never heard of this). But surely the only reason a divorce would be declined is because the judge or whoever doesnt deem the marriage well and truly over and thinks there is room to reconcile??

reader, anonymous, writes (29 July 2006): how long was the actual marriage before your bf applied for a divorce..cant think of any reason unless it was less then a year, then its not technically a divore but you have to apply for an annulment, this however can only be granted if the marriage wasnt consumated(no sex) but seeing as there are children this is unlikely and could be why it was rejected.
