A reader, Pete, writes (12 February 2005): The short answer is 'yes'but:People only tend to be 'used' if they let themselves be 'used'.The only reason people say they don't want to get serious with anyone is that they don't want to use any effort on their part to give anything to someone they are prepared to take from. Don't contact him, if he contacts you say you are busy... try again. Don't drop what you are doing to see him whenever he is feeling like company, even if you are just sitting in watching tv and doing nothing... say you are busy. Get in control.You are surely better than someone who is left waiting at someone's beck and call.
