But now there is a swollen bloody cord of flesh poking out of my vagina - the remains of my septate hymen; and I don't know if I should be concerned about this. I have made a gyno appointment, but I don't know if this is something that should be immediately looked at. It is not causing me any pain or discomfort, I just fear it might become infected. Does anyone know anything about this, or have any experiences with septate hymens that they can share that might make me feel better?

When you made the gyno appointment, did you tell them that you had a "swollen bloody cord of flesh poking out" of your vagina? I think you are probably right to be concerned. I would imagine that "cord" could become infected.
I would call the doctor's office tomorrow and tell them specifically what you've said here and tell them that you are concerned. Ask if you should go to the Emergency Room to have it looked at, if the appointment isn't in the next day or so.
Good luck.
