It could be. I don't know him so I cant tell through the pc. Ask him to the cinema either before you go back to school or one saturday afternoon. See if he makes a move to hold your hand or put his arm round you. If he doesn't try sitting so that you are leaning against his shoulder or your arms are touching on the arm rest :D

He may feel a "close connection" with you, and that you are a trust worthy person rather than his male mates. Try flirting with him, or asking him to the movies or for a coke or whatever dates are these days.
I wouldn't suggest doing anything too "heavy" seen as you are so unsure about his feelings as you don't want to push him far far away from you.
