 Perhaps the first guy was just nervous about making the first serious move towards you. He might have been plucking up the courage before his friend came around and started holding your hand.
The good thing is that the first guy isn't getting bitter over it. THe unfortunate thing is that he moved too slowly.
As for WHICH guy to choose? That's really up to you, who do you feel for more?
