 talk to him. communication is the key :)
tell him how you feel, and please dont hurry with doing sex or sexual stuff, leave him wanting more please, or at least wait till you are his proper official girlfriend.

That is what you should do is just tell him how you really feel about him, you shouldnt be scared you two sound very close. I really think he will say yes. All you have to do is be open, probably in privacy and just tell him.
