He says the chemistry just isn't there. Will this change in the future?

A female United States age , anonymous writes:

I dated this man, age 50, who was never married, for 3 months. We were very passionate and attracted to one another. We never had sex as he wanted it to be a "spiritual experience." However, when I asked him what direction our "friendship" was headed, he stated," The physical chemistry really isn't there the way it needs to be for me. In order for a relationship to grow and thrive the passion has to exist for both people.

I am confused! We still talk and see each other occasionally. I really like him. Is there a chance for a closer relationship, or one that may change romantically in the future?
