A age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I met this guy I really like but he's an 8th grader and I'm a 9th grader. When I asked him out he said he wanted to date someone closer to his age and I'm only a year older than he is but he says he like likes me back. He's totally confused me by liking me back and then saying I'm too old? What should I do?

Maybe he feels that by going out with someone older than he it'll be too hard for him to live up to the expectations. It might intimidate him that you're in highschool and he is not. Maybe he likes you, but knows that a reliationship with someone in high school could cause him to be teased and have to act a lot more mature. Or maybe it's just an excuse and a nice way to say thanks but no thanks. The reason why doesn't matter too much because he doesn't want to go out. Sorry, but maybe you can find a high school guy or ask him again next year. Once he's in highschool the age gap might not seem so huge. I have to admit from my expereince there is a huge difference between grade eight and nine. Just take the fact that he says he likes you as a compliment and let it be. Boys can be somewhat confusing at times. I know from my experience guys who are younger than the girl can find it somewhat intimidating because the age difference gives the girl "power of age". Also, as you are in different groups of school, you might not have the same interests or the ability to mix well with friends and whatnot. Go out and have fun and don't let this confuse or bother you too much. Good luck!

It's just an excuse, it's best just to let this one go.
