Contrary to what the other posters say, you can be registered as a sex offender for sustained verbal threats of a sexual nature.

I will throw out there that in many states you can be placed on the sex offenders register/list for something as drunkingly stupid as peeing in public. So don't be too quick to say he's done something horrific. However, that being said, can't you go down to the local police station and have them tell you what he's on the registry for? In the US, you can look up registered sex offenders and what it is they did online (including if they just got ticketed for peeing in public).

Kelly's right, he's done something much more serious. I don't know about your laws but over here in the USA, once on the sex offenders list-always on the sex offenders list. It's permanent. Be very careful.

Don't bother with him! Verbal abuse and he's on the register is a lie! It has to be something more serious to be put on the register! Don't go near him with a barge pole!!! He is no good, you can find someone better!x
