reader, anonymous, writes (7 April 2009): He shuld put in the effort with ur family if he loves u. Talk to him. He may have his reasons. I was with my ex for 6yrs & we hav a son together & i am closer to his family than his new gfrend & i feel 4 her coz that wuld be hard but i was with him for so long that i formed bonds with his family as he did with mine. That culd be the case with ur boyfriend. Mayb he just needs time to get used to ur family.

 Say that its unacceptable for him to be in contact with his exs family when he feels awkward around yours! Make him spend more time with them! He may feel as though he has to impress them and that's why he feels awkward whereas when he is with his exs family he no longer has to impress them! Reassure him that your family will love him and tell him to be himself around them! X
