He misses me but doesn't show it

My friend he misses me when I'm not with him but doesn't show it. I know because he talks about me when I'm not there! When i am there he sometimes talks to me. I'm trying to give him space and maybe he will be close to me again. Why does he miss me and then ignore me when i'm there? I went to the nurse and came back and I saw him standing with his friends in the hall so I hit him with my book so he would acknowledge that i was there but he never looked. Just stood like I never hit him!
