I'm seeing a man who told me he likes me so much but he does not want me to fall in love with him and he does not want to ever hurt my feelings. What's up with that? he's Mexican and I'm American.

A female reader, Tisha-1 United States +, writes (11 April 2008):

Tisha-1 agony auntI think it means he likes you but doesn't want you to get serious about him. He is not looking for a love relationship, it seems to me. I would not pin any hopes on changing his mind as he's been so upfront with you. In my experience, when a guy says something like this to you, listen! He is being honest, which is good. It may be that there is someone else in his life, but that is pure speculation on my part.

So my advice is to just enjoy a friendship, and do not expect a love match with him.

All the best!

A female reader, anonymous, writes (11 April 2008):

Maybe he has hurt other women in the past, or is looking for just a casual relationship. If that is the case, you need to think about whether you can cope with that, or whether you want something deeper. Could you get him to tell you more about why he is saying this?
