He doesn't want to get a place together yet!

A female Canada age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I have been with my boyfriend for 1.5years. I graduated from university last yr with my degree n have a fulltime job with good pay. I live in an apartment right now with intentions to buy a house early next year when my lease is up.

My boyfriend lives 45min. away. We have talked about when we get a house we will get one at the 1/2 way point between our 2 towns. He works fulltime too but hasn't found a job yet that deals with his degree.

I asked him tonight what he would think of us getting a place together sometime. And he said yes when the money is good and we find the right place.

I told him about my idea for next yr and he said he "didn't see it that soon". Then he explained that it's because he can't afford it yet, that he wouldn't want to be a financial burden on me and that it wouldn't be fair that I'd have to pay for more (It's a substantial difference, I make about 5x as much as him) but that he wants to live with me, just doesn't have the money.

For me it's not about the money, I just want to be with him. I told him I know he'll find a job in his career path soon enough and it won't be a big deal. Or if I were to buy a house and he coudl come live with me, I would take care of the mortgage and we'd split up the other bills.

I'm not starting to look for another few months and told him to just think about it until then. He replied with, "well hopefully I'll have a job by then and then we will be good to go".

Just would like some insite in this situation. Is it true there's an instinct that men feel as though they should be the one's to provide for the other? Just wondering that that's the only reason he didn't really take to getting a place together. Does it sound genuine that he really would like to buy a house with me, that its just the financial aspect holding him back?
