A female reader, Emilysanswers United Kingdom +, writes (30 July 2008):

Well remember that the grass is always greener on the other side. I bet you thought you boyfriend treated you like a princess when you started going out too.

After 3 years many of the initial feelings of love start to fade, it's at this point that you find out if your relationship was lovely but had it's day, or can go the distance.

Separate the issues for a moment.

Do you still love your boyfriend? I'm guessing yes, but are you still In Love with him or do you just care incredibly deeply for him?

New guy is lovely but what he has really done is shine a torch on the cracks in your current relationship. That doesn't make him a better option, it's just shown you that you need to think about whether it's time to move on from your current boyfriend.

Good Luck!! xx
